What is an alligator shirt clip?
As its name suggests, an alligator shirt clip is an accessory that helps shirts keep their shape during production and packaging. It is used after shirts are made and ironed, especially when they are folded for packing. The clips prevent creasing and help shirts look fresh and neat when they go on sale.
Where and how is it used?
Alligator clips are used in the textile industry to keep shirts neat and attractive on store shelves, in storage and during shipping. Their main purpose is to hold shirts folded and in order, preventing creases. Usually made of plastic, they can be used safely without damaging the shirt.
First, the shirt is carefully folded: the sleeves are folded inwards and the shirt is folded lengthwise. Then the alligator clip is placed – usually where the sleeves meet or at the bottom – and its jaw-like opening and closing mechanism grips the folded parts firmly. This keeps the shirt looking neat on shelves, in storage and on its way to the customer.
This use of the alligator clip provides an attractive presentation and helps shirts stay like new for longer.
What materials are alligator shirt clips made of?
- Plastic: the most common material – light and cost-effective. Plastic alligator clips come in various colours and sizes and are unlikely to damage the fabric.
- Metal: chosen for durability. Metal clips are usually stainless steel or brass, last a long time and generally grip more firmly.
